Why Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project?
In 2017, a group of long-time conservation advocates and friends from Las Cruces, New Mexico came together. Tired of being tokenized in conservation and outdoor recreation spaces, they worked to create opportunities for Latinx/Hispanic borderland community members to engage with, access, and learn about public lands and waters. Two years later, Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project (Nuestra Tierra) formally established itself as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and began to spearhead state and national-level policy work. Nuestra Tierra is a small and growing organization who believes in investing in their team to create a work environment that is engaging, fun, and impactful.
Position Summary
The Partnerships & Outreach Manager will step into this new position to manage key community programs, partnerships, and coalitions. The Manager will work directly with the Campaign & Program Director and coalition members to develop mutually-beneficial scopes of work, budgets, and timelines for various state, regional and federal projects. They will coordinate with internal leadership to ensure all projects promote the mission and vision of Nuestra Tierra. The Manager will actively and sustainably build trust with communities, organizing across a diversity of lived, learned, and earned experience. This position may require representing Nuestra Tierra in public settings, such as press conferences, videos, social media, press releases, and more. The Partnerships & Outreach Manager will lead and direct the work of other team members. A wide degree of resourcefulness, creativity, and adaptability is necessary to be successful in this position.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
Coalition & Project Management
- Coordinate resources and people for the successful execution of multiple projects
- Delegate project tasks based on individual strengths, skill sets, and experience levels
- Schedule and facilitate meetings with coalition members and other partners
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define, manage, and adapt the project scope and objectives in order to ensure feasibility
- Take detailed notes and distribute briefs to clarify specific requirements of each project
- Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of all goal and ensure that projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget
- Administer project budgets and provide financial reports under the guidance of the Campaign & Program Director
- Develop comprehensive project plans, documents and other assets as needed to be shared with leadership, partners and coalition member
Outreach & Advocacy
- Establish, maintain, and manage relationships with community members, decision-makers and stakeholders
- Authentically engage in grassroots outreach to hear and share the stories of outdoor equity, access, and community-centered conservation
- Educate and create support for state and federal legislation and agency actions that promote responsible outdoor equity and recreation
- Implement community-centered approach to conservation, environmental justice, outdoor equity, and increased access to public lands and waters
Representative of Nuestra Tierra
- Represent Nuestra Tierra at external meetings, in the press, conferences, and across a variety of platforms
- Effectively communicate the connection between each project and Nuestra Tierra’s mission, vision, and values
- Participate in Nuestra Tierra’s community events
Essential Skills & Experience
- The successful candidate will have a passion for protecting public lands and support Nuestra Tierra’s vision and mission. The ideal candidate will be an innovative problem-solver who values team collaboration while also working well independently.
- 3+ years project management experience
- Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and commitment to following-up
- Strong working knowledge of Google Suite and conferencing technology
- Experience with project management software tools
- Excellent and inclusive verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to learn computer functions, new systems, and other necessary skills
- Ability to take initiative and effectively adapt to change
- Willingness to support other team members in their projects and goals
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and access within the organization and in the environmental movement
- Cultural awareness and competence

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience organizing community outings, meetings, and events
- Experience writing op-eds and blog posts that authentically represent communities
- Passion for conservation, outdoor equity, and outdoor recreation
- $65,000 - $80,000 annually depending on experience
